What to Expect on Your Whale Watching Tour

Check-In and Welcome:

Arrive at Ala Wai Boat Harbor to check in with our friendly crew. We’ll confirm your reservation, answer any questions, and help you get settled before departure

Scenic Coastal Cruise:

Set out along O’ahu’s coastline as your captain navigates toward known whale activity areas. Keep an eye out for dolphins and seabirds along the way.

Whale Spotting and Observation:

Once whales are spotted, the captain positions the boat at a safe, respectful distance. Watch for breaches, tail slaps, and spots as the crew shares insights about whale behavior.

Educational Commentary:

Learn about humpback whale migration, communication, and conservation from an experienced, knowledgeable crew throughout the tour.

Return to Harbor:

After an unforgettable time on the water, we’ll cruise back toward the harbor. Relax, take photos, and enjoy the ocean views before returning to shore.

Humpback whale sightings are very common during Hawai’i’s whale season, but because this is a natural environment, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Our crew always follows respectful viewing practices and federal guidelines to protect the whales.

When is whale watching season in Hawai'i?

Whale season typically runs from December through April, with peak sightings usually occurring between January and March.

How close do we get to whales?

We observe whales from a safe and legal distance in accordance with federal whale protection regulations. This ensures both guest safety and minimal impact on the whales’ natural behavior.

Is this tour safe for children?

Yes, children are welcome. Our boat is equipped with safety gear, and our crew closely monitors all guests throughout the tour. Children must remain under adult supervision at all times.

Do I need any special experience or skills?

No experience is required. This is a relaxed boat-based tour, and guests simply need to be comfortable on the water.

What should I bring with me?

We recommend bringing: a light jacket or windbreaker, sunglasses and sun protection, water, a camera or phone for photos.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety always comes first. If ocean or weather conditions are unsafe, the tour may be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled. In those cases, we’ll contact you as soon as possible with next steps.

Where does the boat depart from?

The tour departs from Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Honolulu. Exact meeting instructions will be provided in your confirmation email after booking. We are also easily findable on Google Maps.
